Democratic National Convention Clean Energy Town Hall
Last night, Governor Granholm moderated a town hall discussion on clean, green energy at the Democratic National Convention in Denver. A panel of energy experts helped answer questions from all over the country about how clean energy will help break America’s dependence on foreign oil, create good jobs that can’t be outsourced, and reduce emissions that contribute to climate change.
From the Detroit News:
The governor got in plenty of plugs for Michigan on national TV, saying her state is heavily in the market for alternative fuel companies, needs a federal partner to diversify its economy, and, of course, doesn’t need a John McCain presidency.
“John McCain said when he was in Michigan ‘your jobs have gone and they’re probably not coming back,’ ” said Granholm, who was asked by the Obama campaign to host the session. “If he’s president, he’s probably right.” Not surprisingly, the panel of four green energy experts favored Obama’s energy policies. And Granholm asked leading questions, such as “what do you think of John McCain’s $4 billion tax break for big oil companies?”
She also fielded questions from a TV and Internet audience. UAW President and Michigan delegate Ron Gettelfinger said the format “brought the outside world into the convention. It’s wonderful and the governor did an outstanding job.”
Delegate Rosa Holliday of Bay City said of Granholm’s performance: “I’m very proud of her. She’s not just talking about lower gas prices; she’s doing something.”
State Rep. Lee Gonzales added: “It’s important Michigan gets any attention it can as we try to attract new knowledge jobs.”

It makes me angry and sad that we still have this archaic law that only American-born citizens can become President. If that were stricken from the books, as no doubt Arnold Scwarzenegger will do, Governor Granholme would have been on Senator Obama’s short-list. And Michigan would leave the swing state list and go solidly democrat.

Nice job, Gov! (So glad this was linked up here so I could watch it in shifted time.)
If the political career fades, you would made a great emcee and talk show host. Smart, funny, sensible, logical…proud to be here in the grand & glorious state of Michigan.
